How this calculator works
Enter your income before tax and any deductions. The result applies the resident tax rates, the low income tax offset and the Medicare levy, and shows your take-home pay by year, month, fortnight and week.
From 1 July 2026 the 16% rate falls to 15%, and employees can deduct $1,000 of work expenses without itemising them. The comparison shows the same income in both years.
Assumptions
- You are an Australian resident for tax purposes for the full year.
- In 2026-27, work-related deductions are the larger of what you enter and the $1,000 standard deduction (capped at your salary).
- The low income tax offset is applied. Other offsets are not included.
- The Medicare levy is 2% of taxable income, shaded in above the single person low income threshold. The 2026-27 thresholds have not been set yet, so the 2025-26 threshold of $28,011 is used, as the law provides until it is updated.
- The Medicare levy surcharge and study loan repayments are worked out on taxable income. Both use a wider income test in practice.
Government rates, thresholds and fees were checked against official sources on 22 October 2026. They change, so confirm them before you rely on a figure.
