How this calculator works
A reverse income tax calculator: enter the net amount and it finds the gross income that leaves exactly that after tax.
It is also how lenders compare income that is not taxed, such as some government payments, with a salary.
Assumptions
- The same tax rules as the income tax calculator: Australian resident for the full year, the low income tax offset, and the Medicare levy if selected.
- No deductions are assumed, so the gross figure is also the taxable income.
- The answer is the smallest whole-dollar income that leaves at least the take-home amount entered.
Government rates, thresholds and fees were checked against official sources on 22 October 2026. They change, so confirm them before you rely on a figure.
